Quiznos calls it quits — again Posted: 30 Nov 2010 08:47 PM PST After only two months in business, Quiznos has again shut down. Darrell Brooks, general manager at the Sedalia location, said he arrived to work at 8 a.m. Tuesday and was met by two Quiznos Corp. representatives. "They said we were closing today," Brooks said. The sandwich shop, which was at 2121 W. Broadway Blvd., reopened Sept. 30 after being closed for nearly a year. The store was previously operated by a franchisee but became corporate owned and operated when it resumed business. Brooks said corporate representatives cited a "lack of performance" for closing the store. But Brooks said the customer base was strong when the restaurant opened and only recently tapered as the holidays drew closer. "We started out good," he said. "Business always slows down this time of year because people are saving for Christmas." Phone calls to the corporate office in Denver were not returned. Brooks said he has been given three weeks of severance pay and was told he could be considered for another general manager position in the future if one becomes available. The other seven full- and part-time employees of Sedalia Quiznos will receive their last paychecks by mail, Brooks said. "I had to call everyone and tell them not to come in because we are closed," he said, "and this is the only source of income for most of my employees." Brooks moved to Sedalia with his 10-year-old son from Wichita, Kan., where he was a district manager for KFC Corp. He said he was recruited by Quiznos and underwent five weeks of training with the corporation. When the business reopened, Brooks was excited about the new venture and called the Quiznos company "young-minded and hip." He also believed his new career had "growth potential." "I was promised a promotion," he said. "I don't know what I'm going to do now."
