“Sandwich shop gets a new life” |
Posted: 11 Oct 2010 02:05 AM PDT : For more information, call 827-0756 or visit quiznos.com. A Sedalia sandwich shop has reopened after being closed for nearly a year. Quiznos, at 2121 W. Broadway Blvd., was left vacant after the previous owners of the franchise shop closed it in November of 2009. The restaurant reopened Sept. 30 and is no longer operated by a franchisee, but owned and run by the Quiznos corporation. "Customers are telling us that they are so glad we're back," said Darrell Brooks, general manager. Brooks comes to Sedalia from Wichita, Kan., where he worked as a district manager for KFC Corp. He said this is his first venture with Quiznos and he's looking forward to being a part of the company. "They're young-minded, they're more hip," he said. "There's a lot of growth potential here." The company operates about 4,000 sandwich shops total and continues to expand. "Between this and next year there will be about 600 new stores," Brooks said. Now that the restaurant is reopened, Brooks said that he and his staff of 17 full- and part-time employees are ready to serve a full menu of sandwiches, soups and salads. "Most of this staff is new to Quiznos and they had four days of training with me," Brooks said. As general manager, one of Brooks' top priorities for the sandwich shop is to ensure that customers are well taken care of. "We're focused on service," Brooks said. "Our goal is to run a customer through in 210 seconds, from order to checkout." As much as fast and friendly service is important to Brooks, he believes it is the sandwiches that Quiznos makes that sets it apart from similar restaurants. "It's our variety, our dressings, our spices. None of them offer what we offer," he said. The menu boasts a wide variety of sandwiches, from classic and signature subs, to toasted favorites. Also served are smaller sandwiches called Torpedoes and Bullets, as well as flat-bread sandwiches called Sammies. "I wouldn't work for the company if I didn't like the food. We have a variety of flavors — that makes the difference. And we're constantly coming out with new sandwiches." Other menu items include salads, soups and special items just for children. The restaurant also offers Choose 2 specials where customers can create their own meals by matching toasty Bullets, flat-bread Sammies, salads and soups for one low price. Although Quiznos doesn't offer a delivery service, it will cater for larger groups with a variety of box lunches and party trays. Customers also can call in orders ahead of time or order online for pick up later. Brooks said "street teams" have been going into Sedalia neighborhoods handing out coupons to help generate business for the shop and to let people know Quiznos is open again for business. "We've handed out 5,000 to 6,000 coupons," Brooks said.
