Parker: Schaden not leaving Quiznos Posted: 08 Oct 2010 12:19 AM PDT Rick Schaden, founder and chief executive of the Denver-based Quiznos sandwich chain, is stepping down from the top job and will be succeeded by Greg MacDonald, who has logged 12 years with the company, most recently as president. Schaden will remain involved with the company as chairman of the board "as he pursues new entrepreneurial and philanthropic endeavors," according to a company statement. Spokeswoman Allison Riley declined to elaborate. Schaden remains the majority shareholder in the company with nearly 4,000 primarily franchised stores. MacDonald began his career with Quiznos in 1998, holding senior positions in development and marketing before being named president of Quiznos Canada in 2005 and president of Quiznos worldwide in 2009. Schaden left the day-to-day operations of the company for two years but returned to the top job in 2009 after then-CEO Dave Deno resigned after seven months on the job. Deno had been commuting from his Kentucky home to the Denver headquarters. As president, MacDonald is credited with leading the charge behind the New Quiznos, a guest experience and in-store remodel. Since the beginning of the year, Quiznos has experienced an increase in average unit volumes. The first Quiznos opened in 1981 at 13th and Grant, where it continues to operate today. Ice, ice, baby. The rink opens Nov. 26, with skates available to rent. The first Skyline Park ice rink was open in 2001 and 2002 but closed for the park's remodeling. Meanwhile at Frontier ... Bryan Bedford, chief executive of Frontier Airlines, will make his series-television debut on "Undercover Boss," airing at 9 p.m. Oct. 17 on CBS4. A promo for the episode will air at the end of Sunday's episode and throughout the following week. ... And at Continental ... Presidents Club members will be happy to hear that one benefit of the merger between Continental and United airlines is that both Continental lounges and Red Carpet Clubs will offer free alcoholic beverages as well as free wireless Internet access. When Denver International Airport merged its Continental Presidents Club with the Red Carpet Club, Red Carpet rules ruled, which meant no free adult beverages. That policy has dried up. My spy.
