TimberCrest, an 80-acre commercial development in Lakeville anchored by a Super Target, has been slow to draw businesses since it opened in 2002. But one new business has opened at the intersection of 185th Street and Interstate 35W and another is under construction.

Sawa Japanese Steakhouse and Sushi Bar opened on July 9 and Lakeville Orthodontics is under construction after purchasing property, with plans to open in the fall.

Jen Helm, a senior associate with NorthMarq, the leasing agent for TimberCrest, said that the down economy has slowed development, but that activity has been picking up.

Helm is hopeful the economy grows enough that more restaurant companies will show interest in the site.

"There just hasn't been a lot of movement,'' Helm said. "Not a lot of restaurant companies have been interested in building new buildings. They've been looking to renovate existing space.

Sawa's owner, Zhong Qin Zheng, is leasing a 3,200-square-foot space. He operates a restaurant in Bloomington with the same name. Zheng recently was approved for a liquor license by the Lakeville City Council and plans to serve lunch and dinner seven days a week.

Other restaurants at TimberCrest include Applebee's, Buffalo Wild Wings, Quiznos and Caribou Coffee.

Plans call for a second anchor tenant to join Target on the site. Helm said NorthMarq has been in contact with a number of retailers but no deal is near. Best Buy, Marshalls and OfficeMax are among the other stores on site.

Hollywood Video recently closed its 5,850-square-foot store. The company has closed a number of stores in the metro area.

New bus service

Jefferson Lines, a Minneapolis-based bus transportation company, has added express bus service from the Burnsville Transit Station at Hwy. 13 and Nicollet Avenue to Mason City and Des Moines, Iowa, and to Kansas City.

The new service features luxury motorcoaches equipped with free Wi-Fi, satellite radio and movies.
